ISLAMABAD: Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Khursheed Shah on Friday said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has “shot himself in the foot” by making the revelation of supporting an ‘independent’ group for the caretaker setup.
During a quick discussion with the media after the National Assembly (NA) session, Shah opined that the PTI chief had made statements regarding the appointment of an independent group as heads of ministries in a delirious state of mind.
“Imran is the type of king who reveals his own secrets,” snickered Shah.
“Imran himself hinted at the arrival of an independent group which gives signs that the new government will be formed with the support of an independent group,” he added and further said that Imran had a slip of tongue when he made a public disclosure of his fear that such an arrangement will ‘weaken the state’.
“The prime minister, on the other hand, thinks that the general elections are being held by ‘invisible forces’,” he said. “In 2013, the ‘mysterious forces’ conducted elections in the shape of Returning Officers (ROs).”
“Apparently, the April 29 Lahore rally has given a new confidence to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan who advised senior party leaders that now they should start behaving like ‘a government-in-waiting’,” he commented.
Earlier in the week, PTI’s senior party members gathered at their chief’s Bani Gala residence to review and discuss the party’s performance in the recent rally held in Lahore, besides the country’s current political atmosphere, internal affairs and strategy for the general elections 2018.
“After the Lahore rally and presentation of historic 11-point reforms programme, we have strong reasons to believe that PTI is indeed a government in waiting. This fact was clearly reflected through Khan’s discussion with party leaders, as he advised all of us that we should act accordingly,” a senior PTI leader, who was in attendance at the meeting, told a local news source.
Replying to a question regarding the party’s intention to finalise its shadow cabinet he said, “It’s a bit early to think about it,” he said.
