ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Chairman Maulana Fazalur Rehman on Friday said that attempts were being made to bring closer the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) for the slot of Senate chairman.

Talking to the media, he said that it was his desire to see both groups bring a joint candidate for Senate chairman through consensus.

Criticising Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, he said that Pakistani media portrayed him as leader but in fact he was a combination of differences.

“Imran Khan should openly declare that Asif Ali Zardari is his leader,” he said.

JUI-F Chief said that Pakistan should play the leading role for the resolution of problems being faced by the Muslim world.

Earlier on Friday, while addressing the session of National Assembly (NA), he said that current situation of Arab world was part of an agenda for the formation of Greater Israel.

He said that the situation in Syria was tragic and as per the reports of international organisations, approximately one million Muslims had been assassinated or injured.

“There are 8 Muslim members of the United Nations Committee for Human Rights (UNHRC) but when the resolution about Syria was tabled in the meeting of the committee, three Muslim members, including Pakistan were absent which is the matter of grave concern,” he said.

JUI-F chief said that Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif should take notice of it and the parliament, in this regard, should be taken into confidence.

He said that parliament should pass the resolution on Syrian crisis it represented the Pakistani nation.
