ISLAMABAD: Federal Ministry of Human Rights (HR) meant for safeguarding people’s rights is currently struggling to function as it lacks a proper office and legal staff, according to a report by a private media outlet.
A senior official of the ministry shared these grievances in a session of National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Human Rights. The committee chaired by Babar Nawaz Khan was informed that the ministry lacked professional lawyers to assist in legal policy decisions and was operating from a rented building for the National Institute of Human Rights project despite it being a European Union assisted programme.
Subsequently, the committee’s chairperson directed the ministry’s official to submit the requests to the Establishment Division so that the requirements could be promptly furnished.
