LAHORE: The Lahore administration on Monday removed the security barriers from outside the residence of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif at Jati Umra and 25 other places.

Acting upon the directives of the supreme court, the administration removed the barriers placed around 26 buildings including Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s Model Town residence, the Governor House, Jamia-al-Qadsia, houses of Jamaatud Dawa (JuD) Chief Hafiz Saeed, residence of the former Punjab governor Salman Taseer, and the city police chief’s offices.

A three-member bench headed by the chief justice of Pakistan on Sunday had issued the orders during a hearing at the SC registry in Lahore, in view of the problems faced by the people due to the barricades placed to block roads in the name of VIP security.

During the proceedings, the additional home secretary had informed the court that the barricades had been erected due to security concerns.

The CJP had remarked that he too was facing threats, adding that the authorities should keep security forces on alert. He had also said that the chief minister was a public figure and that he should not be confined at home or be scared of anyone.
