MULTAN: Police on Saturday failed to present three fugitives in court who have been nominated for the murder of social media celebrity Qandeel Baloch.

According to details, the primary accused, namely Waseem, Haq Nawaz and Mufti Abdul Qavi, appeared for the hearing earlier on Saturday. The parents of Baloch were also present during the hearing.

The District and Sessions Judge Chaudhry Abdul Rasheed had ordered the police to produce the three fugitives, including Baloch’s brother, before the court. The next hearing of the case is scheduled to take place on February 17.

After the hearing, Mufti Qavi told reporters outside the court premises that he appeared for the hearing because he had the utmost respect for the judiciary. Qavi’s name had been nominated in the case on the suspicion that he stirred up the social media celebrity’s brother to kill her in the name of honour.

Qandeel Baloch, whose real name was Fauzia Azeem, became a household name after she started sharing provocative selfies and videos on her social media page. She was strangled in her sleep by her brother Waseem on July 16, 2016.

After his arrest, Waseem confessed to having killed his sister in the name of honour as she had brought a bad name to the family. In December 2016, Waseem along with his cousin Haq Nawaz and Abdul Basit were indicted in the case and pleaded not guilty.

Sometime before her death, Qandeel Baloch had appealed to the interior ministry to provide her security as she feared about the safety of her life.
