NAB decides to continue with probe into DHA scam

Bureau’s executive board also authorises inquiry against DRA CEO Aslam Afghani

 

The National Accountability Bureau has decided to continue investigation against the management of Ms Aleshiam Holdings Pvt limited in which Waseem Aslam Butt, former chief executive Kamran Kiyani, a brother of former army chief Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, and Hammad Arshad were accused of delivering illegal allotment certificates of DHA Islamabad.

The decision was taken in the meeting of Executive Board of National Accountability Bureau here on Thursday under the chairmanship of NAB Chief Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal.

An inquiry was also authorised against Drug Regulatory Authority chief executive Muhammad Aslam Afghani. The appointment of Afghani was illegal and caused loss of millions of rupee to the national kitty.

The executive board authorised inquiry against CDA and BNP group officers and others for misuse of authority and causing losses to the tune of  Rs 2.915 billion to the National Exchequer. The meeting decided to conduct inquiry against Drug Regulatory Authority director Akhtar Hussein for having assets beyond known sources of income. A reference would also be filed against Mian Abuzar and others for illegally selling 800 kanal government land on through away prices.

The board authorised filing corruption reference against Syed Asif Hashmi for being involved in illegal appointment in Pakistan Educational Institutions. The meeting approved filing three different references against former MPA Malik Muhammad Rafiq Khar, officers of revenue department and others for misuse of authority and illegal allotment of land.

Yet another inquiry was approved against former IG Farooq Nazir who is accused of having assets beyond known sources of income. The board authorised inquiries against NGOs and INGOs for misuse of funds and embezzlement.

The board decided to close inquiries against officers of Punjab Highways and Management of Islamia University Bahawalpur owing to absence of solid proof. Justice Javed ordered avoiding to pend the inquiries for long and take the cases to logical conclusion within prescribed time.
