ISLAMABAD: National Assembly (NA) Deputy Speaker Murtaza Javed Abbasi Thursday directed the Ministry of Housing and Works to submit a comprehensive report during the next session for failing to carry out development work in sectors I-12 and D-13.

“The ministry should present a report stating the factual position of the development work being initiated in the respective sectors during the next session,” the deputy speaker said. He said that the common people have hoped to get a plot in the above-mentioned sectors, but the authority concerned had failed to complete the development work in these sectors.

Earlier, replying to a calling attention notice, Minister of State for Inter-Provincial Coordination Dr Darshan said that about 70-80 per cent of roads in sector I-12 had been completed. The minister also said that work on the sectors was started in 1996, unfortunately, the development work was not pursued by any government after that. The present government had initiated the development work in these sectors, he added.

Dr Darshan said that former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had started the construction of roads in the commercial area of I-12, which was nearing completion. He said that land had been acquired for the development of sector D-13 and soon development work would be started there.

The minister said that due to the negligence of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) officials, timely payments had not been made to the owners of the lands that were acquired for the two sectors.
