Pakistan Air Force (PAF) thrashed WAPDA 64-47 to lift the title of the 50th Men’s National Basketball Championship 2011 here at the Hamidi Hall, Pakistan Sports Complex. PAF completely dominated the proceedings, availing most of their scoring opportunities and also defended well. Air Force scored 16 points in the first quarter, while a weary-looking WAPDA managed just five. PAF continued from where they had left and controlled the pace of the match with Prem Shahzad and Ahmed Jan leading the way. At one time they had stretched their lead to 20 points (27-7). However, WAPDA bounced back to trim that lead to 10 points with Falak Fareed hitting a couple of three pointers and Jahangir Ahmed coming good under the basket. With both teams scoring 14 points each in the second quarter, PAF led 30-19 at the halfway stage. Both teams played steadily after the break but WAPDA, who needed to play out of their skin to overcome the deficit, were unable to put PAF under pressure. Air Force stretched their lead to 13 points going into the fourth quarter. The same pattern continued in the last quarter with PAF maintaining their hold on the match and WAPDA trying hard to turn the table on their opponents. PAF scored 18 points in the final 10-minutes period while WAPDA added 14. Prem Shahzad was simply outstanding in the whole match. He impressed a large gathering at the Hamidi Hall with his pace and skill. The forward scored 19 points. Centre Mohammad Akhtar contributed 15 points, Ahmed Jan added 14 and Tanveer Ali helped in with 12 points. Falak Fareed was the best scorer with 19 points for WADPA, while Jahangir Ahmed and Yawar Khan chipped in with nine each. Earlier, Higher Education Commission (HEC) ended their impressive run in the championship with a bronze medal after beating Railways with 71-59 in a third place playoff. Railways were ahead by three points in the first quarter but it was all HEC in the remaining three quarters. Aashir Gill (18), Waqas Nazar (17), Aaqib Javed (14) and Mohammad Zohair (8) were the impressive players for HEC. Allah Baksh (26), Mohammad Shan (18) and Junaid Shah (8) were the prominent players for Railways.

Pakis may say that the militants fighting in kashmir are “their boys”, and their brethen. But in fact, they are nothing of such type. These militants come from the same ranks, which are responsible for killing shias and other muslims in pakistan. And forget all these things. Pakistan is a very small item. We are meant to play with the big boy league. Not waste our energies on some two-tin country, which is all screwed up. The fact that even after 10 years of supporting militants, it is the TIRANGA which flies in srinagar and not green of pakistan. Is there any more proof required abou t the failure of pakistan’s policy of detaching Kashmir from india? Pakistan is not worth all the attention that we give it.
