Former finance minister Ishaq Dar, who has been in London for over two months now owing to “medical reasons”, has been admitted to the London Bridge Hospital for treatment of his chronic lower-back and neck pain.

Dar was in a recurring progressive neck pain radiating to the arm for which he was referred by his cardiac surgeon to a consultant spinal neurosurgeon at the London Spinal Centre, Geo News reported on Friday.

The former prime minister is on steroid injections given to him in his cervical spine in the form of nerve root block and faced joint steroid injections, the outlet quoted the sources as saying.

Dar is expected to be discharged Saturday after the today’s [Friday] procedure that lasted for over 1.5 hours.

Since his visit to the UK, Dar had undergone various medical tests, from which it was established that he had issues with one of the coronary vessels, which for the time being is being treated with strong medication to avoid surgical intervention.

Dar who left the country in last week of October to attend 6th CAREC Ministerial Conference in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, had gone to London via Saudi Arabia where he checked in a hospital for treatment, and subsequently underwent angiography. Ishaq Dar was reportedly advised by doctors to extend his stay in London and get treatment on a priority basis.

Ishaq Dar has been facing a NAB reference in an accountability court after the SC ruled against the Sharif family in Panama case and ordered the references to be filed against them, including Dar.

In November, an accountability court hearing graft references against him issued non-bailable warrants after he continuously failed to appear before it.

Moreover, in the same month, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi had accepted Dar’s request to relinquish his charge of the various cabinet divisions he was heading and granted him a leave of absence for 3 months.
