LAHORE: A special team of Punjab Food Authority (PFA), led by Punjab Food Minister Bilal Yaseen, inspected various food points, food manufacturing factories and vegetable fields in Faisalabad on Tuesday.

The team sealed a bread maker, namely Wonder Bread, on not maintaining hygienic conditions at its baking facility. During the visit of the factory, it was observed that food items were being prepared with smelly and adulterated ingredients while the butter being used in the manufacturing process did not even qualify as butter. In addition, there were no manufacturing and expiry dates printed on cakes labels, the inspection team informed.

The minister also showed his displeasure over the pathetic working conditions and asked the management as to why medical fitness certificates were not displayed and why there were no anti-pest arrangements made in the production unit. “Such carelessness in production of food items shall not be tolerated,” he warned.

The management of Wonder Bread failed to satisfy the team on which raw material weighing up to 15,000 kilogrammes and 1,353 packs of bread were confiscated on the spot.

Meanwhile the team also inspected vegetables field located at Tariqabad where cauliflowers were being irrigated by sewage water containing industrial waste.

Bilal Yaseen ordered to immediately uproot all the vegetable cultivated on the five acres of land. He said that the Punjab government had prohibited the use of polluted water in farming and violators were playing with the health of consumers by defying the rules.
