SRINAGAR: In occupied Kashmir, Hurriyat leaders and human rights organisations, while expressing concern over the framing of murder and other fake charges against the Kashmiris, have termed the move a handiwork of the puppet administration to ruin the career of the youth.

This concern was expressed in response to the indictment of 17 youngsters by a Srinagar court in fake cases of murder, rioting and robbery in connection with the lynching of a police officer at Nowhatta in Srinagar, earlier this year.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Muhammad Ayub Pandit was lynched in Srinagar on June 22, 2017.

The court announced the order after hearing the counsel of the accused Nazir Ahmed Ronga, and the public prosecutor. Both sides had been arguing on framing of charges from October.

On October 6, the police had filed a charge-sheet in the court of the Srinagar chief judicial magistrate (CJM) against the 17 youngsters. It also separately filed a challan against four juveniles accused in the case.

Srinagar’s CJM committed the challan of 17 accused to the Srinagar court of principal district and sessions judge for trial, who later transferred the case to the fourth additional principal district and sessions court.

The case has been listed for December 16.
