ISLAMABAD: MPA Ziaullah Afridi’s lawyer on Monday filed an application in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) requesting the dismissal of petition filed by Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan against his client.

He said that this petition should be dismissed as it was filed against the MPA ‘with malicious intent.’

The reference was filed on Sept 27 by the PTI chief seeking Afridi’s disqualification from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on the grounds of his announcement that he would be joining the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) soon.

A three-member bench of the ECP took up the petition. The lawyer said that he may also file a request for the ECP to order Imran to appear before the commission and explain if Afridi was removed from the party or resigned.

The case was adjourned until December 26.
