DUBAI: After being neglected for a long time, the Pakistani community centre in Ras Al Khaimah is being properly looked after by the new office-bearers, who have initiated a number of projects to facilitate the 70,000-strong Pakistani community.
The centre located in the downtown of Ras Al Khaimah, UAE, since the last two decades had for long failed to cater to the demands of the Pakistani community, which consists of almost 69 percent of labourers, mostly belonging to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Javed Iqbal Khattak, the president of the community centre said the incumbent administration had taken charge in July with an aim to resolve issues faced by the community for long. “Currently we are working hard to take care of all sectors, from education to recreational, for the community.
In this regard, the executive members of the centre have themselves spared a large amount of money to revamp the multipurpose hall to set up a number of indoor games facilities and provide a platform to the community to hold private meetings and social gatherings,” he said.
He said the centre would be used as a regular fund-generating source, as currently the community centre had no resources of its own and the executive body was bearing all expenses itself. Khattak said they had spent around 300,000 dirhams so far to refurbish the centre. “The former consul general in Dubai had promised to bear some expenses, but we are awaiting a response as yet, as a new CG has been appointed,” he said.
He said they had approached the newly appointed CG Tariq Iqbal Soomro, who had assured the office-bearers of looking into the matter on priority. “We are also focusing on education and in the last couple of months, we have taken a number of initiatives to revamp the community school to improve its quality of education,” he pointed.

  1. i happened to visit UAE and also RAK community Centre. I was deeply impressed with the interest taken by the new office holders, especially the President, the VP and the secretary. The Centre was a busy place and always attended by a good number of members. Their involvement with community welfare was truly praiseworthy. I compliment the new management and wish them success and prosperity.

    Jamil from Pakistan
