Earlier, in his opening remarks, the prime minister said the challenges confronting the country required greater unity among the people and leaders across the political divide. The premier informed the cabinet about his visit to China. He said the Chinese leadership had told him that even without Pakistan asking, the Chinese vice premier and state counselor for foreign affairs, who attended the recent Sino-US Strategic and Economic Dialogue in Washington, had urged the US to respect Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, to recognize Pakistan’s sacrifices in the war against terrorism.
