The government is engaged in a consultation process with all stakeholders to form an independent commission to investigate the Abbottabad incident, and the preliminary investigation report of the terrorist attack on Pakistan Naval Station (PNS) Mehran would also be presented in two days, Information Minister Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan told reporters here on Friday. In a media briefing about a cabinet meeting held here today, Awan said that the government was committed to the formation of an investigation commission in line with the spirit of the unanimous resolution passed by parliament. She added that some names were under consideration for the commission’s chief, as well as members.
Earlier, in his opening remarks, the prime minister said the challenges confronting the country required greater unity among the people and leaders across the political divide. The premier informed the cabinet about his visit to China. He said the Chinese leadership had told him that even without Pakistan asking, the Chinese vice premier and state counselor for foreign affairs, who attended the recent Sino-US Strategic and Economic Dialogue in Washington, had urged the US to respect Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, to recognize Pakistan’s sacrifices in the war against terrorism.
