KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that the party would not allow democracy to derail and added that the party will stand with democracy.

The announcement came on Sunday in the backdrop of the Islamabad operation and protests erupting across Pakistan.

A high-level meeting was held at the Bilawal House in Karachi which was attended by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Asif Ali Zardari, Khursheed Shah and Murad Ali Shah.

During the meeting, Bilawal stressed that the PPP in troubled times would stand with democratic institutions in the country.

The PPP leadership was also of the view that the government didn’t evaluate the situation in Islamabad correctly, calling on the government to fulfil its constitutional requirements.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah also briefed the meeting, saying that the security situation in the province was under control.

Meanwhile, Opposition Leader in National Assembly and senior PPP leader Khursheed Shah said that his party was standing for democracy and parliament, adding that democratic forces in the country should not be weakened.

“Religious matters should not be used for political sloganeering,” the opposition leader said while talking to a private news channel.

He said the PPP leadership had conveyed a clear message in the backdrop of the present situation of the country. Shah also maintained that issues should be resolved through talks in accordance with the constitution and law.
