Seminar held at QIH in connection with World Diabetes Day

ISLAMABAD: A seminar was organized by the Quaid-e-Azam International Hospital (QIH) on Tuesday in connection with World Diabetes Day in Islamabad.

The event was organised by the university to raise general awareness about the disease so that steps could be taken in order to improve the quality of life of diabetic patients.

A number of doctors, medical staff and patients were present at the seminar. The predominant view of the attendees on this issue was that Diabetes cannot be prevented unless and until the government, public and private sectors combine their efforts towards tackling this global challenge.

Medicine and Nephrology Head of the department Brigadier (r) Dr Abdul Halim, termed diabetes as a global health challenge adding that World Diabetes Day has now become a major event to spread awareness about this deadly disease.

While addressing the gathering, the CEO of QIH Dr Shaukat Ali Bangash hoped that events like these would go a long way in spreading awareness about Diabetes all across the country, adding that diabetes is a complicated problem that affects over 415 million people in the world.

There was a question-answer session after the discussion, with the participants visiting the exhibition stalls set up by various pharmaceutical companies afterwards. Blood sugar and BMI were tested for free at these stalls as well.
