PITB launches ‘PMIS’ at district jail

LAHORE: Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) has launched the first ever pilot project “Prison Management Information System” (PIMS) at district jail to automate jail records and manage the information of inmates.

Reviewing the project in a meeting, founding Vice Chancellor of Punjab Information Technology University (ITU), PITB Chairman and Advisor to Punjab CM Dr Umar Saif directed to make innovative improvements to get effective results from the project and for speedy launch in all jails of the province, in order to efficiently control and manage jail affairs which would help in instant decision making and planning.

Digitalisation of prison’s management would also facilitate visitors/public through fast-track registration of interviews and instant redressal of public grievances, he remarked.

The chairman was informed that the automation of the prisons system would not only enhance performance of the management but will also save time.

Through the PMIS, information of 51,747 prisoners, 14,895 visitors and 136 patients hospitalised in the jail has been gathered, the review meeting was apprised.
