LAHORE: Pakistan Peoples Party-Workers (PPP-W) Chairperson Naheed Khan has vowed to continue her struggle for setting up an independent and administratively powerful Election Commission (EC) and said that all political parties would be taken into confidence for this campaign.
Addressing a large gathering of the party’s workers at Karim Park, Lahore on Friday, Naheed Khan said that the incumbent EC had failed to conduct a fair and transparent by-poll and she clearly indicated that they would launch a systemic and well planned move against the election commission so that a powerful commission, free from the clutches of the political ruling parties, would be setup. “Only an unbiased election commission can conduct transparent and fair upcoming general elections which are going to be held in 2018”.
PPP-W President and ex-senator Dr Safdar Abbasi, other party’s leadership including Sardar Hur Bakhari, Rai Qaisar, Abn-e-Rizvi, Aamna Zaidi, Saleem Khan and ex-MPA and candidate for MNA slot in NA-120 Sajida Mir were also present on this occasion.
Naheed Khan said that they raised the issues of 29,000 votes which are not yet be verified with the election commission and unfortunately, this genuine issue too was not being solved, which raises serious questions on the performance of the commission.
She said that the party has pitched an ideological candidate in Sajida Mir who struggled throughout her life for the supremacy of the democracy in the country. Sajida can openly challenge that no political opponent can compete with her, as far as struggling for democracy is concerned.
She said that her party’s leadership, from the very first day, was calling on the voters to reevaluate the candidates before casting their votes.
On this occasion, Dr Safdar Abbasi said those who could not change the conditions of the suppressed class in three decades, could not bring a positive change in another year.
He said that the people of the constituency should think before casting their votes, whether they want a bright future for their young generations or they want to bring the same elite political class into power which is usurping their rights.
He said that the ruling class drinks potable water which they import from the foreign countries, while the people of this country are living in condition where they have no potable water, no sanitary system and no proper health facilities. He asked the people to vote for change in the country.
