LAHORE: Punjab government has allowed the women wing of the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) to hold a one-day protest on The Mall today.

Reportedly, the protest will end following the address of PAT chief Tahirul Qadri at 10 pm whereas the sit-in will be held on DC Road tomorrow.

Earlier today, the Lahore High Court, in a petition against PAT’s proposed sit-in on The Mall,  directed the party to act in accordance with the law and abide by the commitment made by its counsel.

The petition had been filed by Naeem Mir, secretary general of The Mall Traders Association against PAT’s plan to stage a sit-in at The Mall.

The court had sought a reply from the PAT till today.

Earlier, the high court’s orders denied permission to Dr Tahirul Qadri to carry out a sit in at The Mall, Lahore. Regardless of which, preparations were in full swing for the sit-in to commence at the Mall Road’s Istanbul Chowk.

PAT has previously been barred from conducting the said sit-in announced by Qadri. PAT, however, maintained that they were going to go ahead with the rally regardless of whether they get the permission or not.

PAT leader Noorullah Siddiqui had said that the final decision would be taken by the court on Wednesday and insisted that it would be a peaceful rally.

Earlier today, Qadri’s container along with other equipment was transferred to Istanbul Chowk ahead of the scheduled sit-in.

In 2016, Qadri staged a sit-in in Rawalpindi, demanding justice for the Model Town victims who were killed by the Punjab police in a 2014 clash in Model Town. This incident took place after Qadri’s first sit-in in 2013, that he staged against the government’s corrupt policies.
