LAHORE: The Punjab government has issued a letter to all public schools of the province to thoroughly clean their premises and rid it of any possible dengue larvae, before the end of summer vacations.

According to the letter, recent rains have resulted in an increased likelihood of dengue larvae breeding. “Stagnant water has been reported due to the improper drainage system. Therefore, the possibility of larvae breeding has increased,” the letter states.

“As per a notification of the Government of Punjab, schools are reopening after summer vacations on August 13, 2017. It is therefore necessary to follow measures prescribed in dengue SOPs during the observance of cleanliness week,” the letter further mentions.

“It is also required to ensure the vector surveillance of all public and private schools before August 10, 2017,” it continues. The letter directed all health CEOs to pass these directions onto DEOs, deputy DEOs and head of schools to ensure that all necessary steps are undertaken to prevent this from become a problem.

The letter further directs all CEOs to send activity reports on cleanliness levels in their respective areas, back to the department. Moreover, it warned that if the instructions are not fully followed, the concerned head of school, DEO or CEO would be held responsible.
