KARACHI: An accountability court is likely to indict former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh Ghulam Haider Jamali and other senior officers in a corruption reference on May 06.
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has booked Jamali, then AIG Finance Fida Hussain Shah, DIG (training) Sahab Mazhar and others for allegedly causing loss of over Rs 500 million to the national exchequer by misusing their authority and powers.
In Saturday’s hearing, while ordering the provision of the copy of the NAB reference to the accused persons, the judge put off the hearing till May 06 on which the accused persons are expected to be indicted.
The NAB had filed the reference against Jamali, Fida Hussain, then Sindh Reserve Police Head Aitezaz Ahmed, then SSP Captain (retired) Ghulam Azfar Mahesar, then SP of Matiari district Amjad Ahmed Shaikh, SP Khalid Mustafa Korai and others for their alleged roles in making illegal appointments in the department.
It was alleged that the above-mentioned police officers misused their authority and circumvented the required procedure to make illegal appointments in the Sindh police and the Sindh Reserve Police, in particular, causing a loss of over Rs50 million to taxpayers’ money.
The NAB had carried out the investigation in the light of the report of a three-member fact-finding committee which was constituted by the Supreme Court of Pakistan to investigate irregularities in the recruitments in Sindh police.
