President Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday announced that PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will take up “some political responsibility” upon returning from the UK in September. Zardari made this revelation while addressing PPP parliamentarians and office bearers from Gujranwala division at the Aiwan-e-Sadr.
A PPP source told Pakistan Today that the president made an effort to convince and calm down the raging PPP stalwarts from Gujrat and Gujranwala districts on the party’s future alliance with the PML-Q – the rival party which is stronger than the PPP in both districts. The meeting is being seen as a step by the president to convince his colleagues from Gujranwala where stiff resistance has been seen against alliance with the PML-Q.
“During the meeting, the president also told the PPP MNAs and ministers that his party had planned to reach a seat adjustment deal in the upcoming polls with the PML-Q leadership. However, the president said all PPP leaders will be accommodated if the seat adjustment disturbs anyone,” the source said.
He said the president also took his party men into confidence over his scheme of things for the upcoming elections, adding that the PPP-PML-Q alliance might prove to be disastrous for their political enemies (read PML-N). Briefing reporters, president’s spokesman Farhatullah Babar quoted the president as reiterating the government’s resolve to serve the country and the masses with full dedication and putting the country back on the path of progress and prosperity.
He urged party parliamentarians and office bearers to dedicate themselves for the welfare of the people as the performance in the government would speak and determine party position in the next general elections to be held after two years. Zardari said the PPP, being the major political force and equally popular in all parts of the country, would continue to work to strengthen democratic institutions in the country besides restoring law and order and economic stability in the country.
Babar quoted the president as saying people had reposed great confidence in the party and “we must struggle both individually and collectively to rise to their expectations and could proudly face the voters in the next elections.” The president asked them to analyse the results of each and every by-election with a view to draw lessons from it and enable themselves to prepare for future electoral contests in an effective manner.

  1. Bilawal to contest election from Lyari: So this was the reason, why Zardari rushed to Karachi, not to stop the killings, which he is enjoying according to Plan, but to declare that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will return to Karachi in Sept & will contest election from Lyari. Zardari very generously directed to distribute 500 rickshaws for the jobless youth of Lyari. Zardari did not mention, whether it will be from Govt fund or will be funded from his own pocket.
