An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Monday sentenced to death Parveen Bibi, the mother of Zeenat Rafiq, for murdering her daughter in a case of ‘honour killing’ by setting her on fire for marrying against wishes of the family.
Zeenat Rafiq, 18, a resident of Main Chungi Bazaar, was burnt alive by her mother, brother and brother-in-law.
Parveen Bibi had earlier confessed she had murdered her daughter for “bringing shame to the family”.
Police had suspected that Parveen was helped by her son and son-in-law in killing the girl.
It was revealed in court that Zeenat’s mother and brothers had first beaten her, then her mother threw kerosene on her and set her on fire.
Parveen in court today accepted responsibility for Zeenat’s death.
Police registered a case against three people on the complaint of Zeenat’s husband Hassan Khan.
Zeenat’s mother Parveen Bibi and her son-in-law Zafar were in police custody after an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) sent accused involved in Zeenat murder case to jail on 14-day judicial remand.
