Electricity from India

According to many press reports, India has offered to provide us electricity whereas ex-PM Nawaz Sharif during his tenure had also offered to provide electricity to India. It was evident from the press reports that in fact there was no shortage of electricity in our country. Nonetheless, it was mismanagement of electricity’s distribution including pilferage and line losses that created a big power crisis from time to time.
It is our candid view till WAPDA – the white elephant (as labelled by the two Prime Ministers Gilani and about 36 years back Z A Bhutto) is there, there is no hope to resolve the electric crisis amicably in Pakistan whereas 36 years is sufficient period to judge the performance of any government organisation. What is the justification in retaining such a corrupt organisation that has political intentions?
WAPDA had manipulated data about the release of water for years as pointed out in A N G Abbasi’s Technical Report, to favour one province and it is continuously playing with the future of the country by openly supporting that province in order to find so-called justification for construction of controversial Kalabagh dam (KBD) in Punjab.
I am unable to understand why our elected government is hesitant to take stern action against the corrupt WAPDA whereas various Audit Reports show billions of rupees were embezzled and misappropriated.
I suggest that federal government should accept the offer of India for the supply of electricity as in the past we have imported sugar and other commodities from them and also disband controversial WAPDA by devolving it to four provinces, in the interest of country.
