Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan has said that the Supreme Court (SC) has taken the first step toward bringing the Pakistani monarch under the ambit of law.
“Apex court has taken the first step today to bring monarchy under democracy. We hope when Panama Leaks case starts, then those things will also come to light which have been concealed,” Khan said while talking to reporters on the court premises on Thursday.
The PTI chief made it clear that his party’s planned protest would not stop due to the commencement of the case in the apex court, saying, “Our protest is against the prime minister (PM) and his institutions. It is part of democratic process.”
Khan also said that the protest would now gather momentum following the start of the case in the court.
“PM and his ministers have been saying daily that Panama Leaks case would fade away and no one would question the matter of theft of billion of rupees,” he underlined, deploring that “parliament had played no role in investigating the case”.
Khan went on to say that when justice was not administered to a political party then it was its constitutional right to stage a peaceful protest. “We will continue our peaceful protest besides legal proceedings,” he added.
Khan observed that state institutions ran on taxes, and said that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and other institutions should have become active on the Panama Leaks issue.
“Corruption proliferates if institutions grow weaker, while corruption scales down if institutions are strengthened,” concluded Khan.
