Fragile Democracies

The prestigious “Economist” magazine of Aug 20th 2016 states that the democracies in Africa have more or less become pseudo democracies with many of Africa’s worst Big men were swept away. Mengistu Haile Mariam fled Ethiopia in 1991. Mobutu sese seko of Zaire or Congo decamped in 1997; a year later Soni Abacha died in office (Rumor has it, in the arms of prostitutes). Too often it is illiberal sort of pseudo-democracy in which the incumbent democracies demonise the opposition, exploit the power of State to stoke the electoral contest in its favour and never accepts constraints on its power.

How true it is in Pakistan as above situation smells of Pakistan. As a result the two term rule for Heads of Govt. is not preferred as it fosters change. In Pakistan where the P.M. rules for third time which breeds distrust and corruption that is experience of the day. Perhaps we should go back to two term rule to infuse some stability in politics of the country which has become wayward now.
