K-Electric Ltd (KEL) has launched its aerial bundle cable (ABC) project in the Metroville area of SITE, Orangi, in collaboration with local community and area representatives. K-Electric announced that its commitment to convert high-loss areas to low-loss and load shedding free areas was on track.
Metroville, Orangi is a high loss area with a rampant electricity theft.
K-Electric’s teams, through a continuous engagement with the community and stakeholders, have started the groundwork for ABC installation in the area. Currently, the area has over 3,400 connections which would be converted to ABC, whereas additional 300 new low-cost and subsidised meters would be installed as part of this project.
Keeping in view its corporate social responsibility K-Electric would also install a water purification plant in the area so as to provide clean water to the residents.
KEL spokesperson added that ‘kundas’ (hooks that are attached to live power cables to secure supply without having to pay for it) and electricity theft is the single largest cause of faults and tripping.
Aerial bundle cables are ‘kunda’ resistant and therefore help curb electricity theft, while also enhancing the reliability of electricity supply. ABC installation in underprivileged communities is coupled with new low-cost meters as part of K-Electric’s CSR initiative to facilitate residents.Successful installations in Orangi come after completion of ABC projects in Rehmat Chowk, Altaf Town, Ghazdarabad among other areas. These areas have been successfully converted to low-loss areas and hence, are now load shedding free communities.
Eliminating Kunda system, and attempting to unveil theft case by Ke is welcome, at the same it is essential for them to be honest in Billing, Most of the consumers are being charged by additional billing on the periods already been paid, in addition to this meter readers and manipulating and registering the figures less than actual for few months and allow the figures to cross the limit of low rates, and send the accumulated number of units of higher rates, This unwanted burden to consumer makes unbearable on his limited income. I can produce documentary evidence on this fact of billing scam of Ke. As such I request the higher authorities of Ke to look into this matter and take necessary action to shelter the normal domestic consumers.
