Police remains one of the only public service organisations that dont enjoy a lot of public support due to their rude behaviour towards the public. This behaviour is very much due to the historical background of the police force that was created by the British government at that time to exert effective control over the local people. However, even after Pakistan became independent, successive governments failed in devising a police act that could change the image of the police force. A major step forward was taken in the year 2002, when the Police Order was introduced. But due to its lack of implementation, very few improvements were made. The Punjab government also introduced a Police Order 2010, based on the Police Order 2002.
It is evident that in Pakistan the main problem remains the lack of implementation of a law which certainly requires political will. Unless or until the police force detaches itself from political influences, there wont be much improvement.
