A dead and buried case?

The decision of the PPP to re-open Zulfikar Ali Bhuttos murder case is a very odd decision. Even though the event itself is a dark blot on the judicial history of Pakistan and it can be termed as a miscarriage of justice, a more pressing issue at hand would be Benazirs murder.

The editorial on 29th March in this paper made a very valid point that the perpetrators of the ZAB case are dead and buried whereas justice can be pursued in the Benazir case and its effects would be on the here-and-now. The PPPs motivations with regards to the re-opening of this case are also unclear. I hope that the PPP leaders will not use this case for political leverage as it could add to the unrest created by institutional clashes in the country. Its long-term cause would be better served to make sure that the orchestrators of the BB murder case are brought to the book.
