It is obvious that the law and order situation in Karachi has gotten out of control and the police have been unable to cope with the situation. The evident reason for this helplessness of the police seems to be the political intrusion and influence on this institution.
Sindh police has already been marred with various scandals relating to political based hiring and corruption. It is imperative that the citizens should mobilise and voice their opinions against the prevalent practices in this institution. They should pressure their elected representatives to carry out reforms in the police and depoliticise this institution.
The citizens of Karachi are going through one of the worst times in their history. The target killing spree has affected not only the peace of the city but also the financial activities have come to a halt.
The role of police in bringing back the lost confidence in the citizens of Karachi is instrumental. The disruption in financial activities seriously affect revenue generation and thus millions are lost due to lack of law and order.
A serious and meaningful interaction between police and citizens of Karachi will help bring back calm and will boost confidence of the general public.
