It is a common practice in police department that the expenses incurred on investigations by the relevant police officer are not reimbursed or paid.
This practice presents a discouraging situation as it becomes understandable that while nothing extra is being paid to the investigating officer, they are also not being paid for any effort made at their own expense, leading to non-committal of these officers towards pursuance of the case.
To improve the investigations of cases, it is imperative that the investigating officers should be facilitated by the department in every possible way, whether that may be provision of resources or payment of dues incurred on the investigation.
