The unfortunate role of political parties in Karachi, to force KESC after its privatisation to retain surplus unqualified employees, is a direct intervention which will only result in further deterioration of this vital organisation, so essential to keep the wheels of our economy running. The KESC line losses are over 35 percent instead of normal line losses of under 10 percent, which indicates massive theft in electricity.
The political parties will not allow KESC to recover unpaid bills, nor clamp down on kundas. Such theft can only occur with connivance of employees and local city and provincial government agencies. There seems to be a compulsive disorder on the part of ruling political party to recruit unqualified persons in state organisations.
This reflects either contempt for merit or indicates that these jobs were sold. While it is understandable that the government desires to provide employment, it defies reason why the same cannot be done as per rules on merit.
