A lot of criticism has been directed on police since the Elite force policeman killed Mr Salmaan Taseer. Recently, almost 30 police officers have been removed from the protocol of VIPs in suspicion of having links with extremist organisations.
Its high time that the authorities rethink and redesign the process of recruitment for police. This can be done by severing the political ties that have existed in the police departments from the beginning.
Apart from this a strict check of the associations and inclinations of the prospective candidates should also be carried out, in order to minimise the chances of an extremist getting into the force.
These steps will certainly ensure a citizen friendly police that is focused on helping them instead of bullying. Its also important to mention here that an equal role from our side is also needed i.e., from the citizens, so that these problems can be solved on priority basis.
