Yesterday, it was reported in a newspaper that some members of Elite force have been taken off the duty with VIPs.
This was done on the suspicion that these persons might be having links with extremists. This step is certainly commendable. There should be a detailed check into the activities of the personnel that are assigned duties with VIPs, so that incidents similar to the assassination of Salmaan Taseer can be avoided in the future. Elite force and other special squads are given special trainings and are considered more vigilant than the regular police. Insiders are always hard to identify and are most dangerous. So it is important that intelligence agencies should scrutinise each and every police official before assigning them special duties of a sensitive nature.
