An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Monday handed over three alleged extortionists, Shahid Shaikh, Muhammad Kashif and Shakeel to police on physical remand till August 1.

The police presented the accused before the administrative judge of ATC to get their physical remand.

The investigating officer (IO) requested the court to remand all the suspects in police’s custody as they were required for interrogation to trace their connections. While accepting the IO’s request, the judge handed over the suspects to police on physical remand for eight days.

According to police, the suspects had sent bullets to a shopkeeper and asked him to pay Rs 500,000 as protection money on July 4 within the limits of Baldia police station. They had threatened the shopkeepers for dire consequences if he fails to pay the extortion.

Meanwhile, the complainant reported the matter to police who arrested the suspects.
