Making both (fri)ends meet

The US has stated that it wants to work with both the civilian and military leaders of Pakistan. The statement, which negates an impression of preferring military rulers over civilians created by the WikiLeaks, is one of the best examples of diplomatic statements. Not only the civilian leaders of the country but also the military leaders would construe it as being in their favour.

The truth is that the statement merely puts forward what the US really wants to be done. It only wants to protect its interests and achieve its goals regardless of who rules the country at a given time. They are willing to work with the dictators as have they in the past. And getting the civilians to work with them is a no-brainer for them.

The champion chest beater of democracy has not hinted at how it could make both the dictators and political leaders happy at the same time. The peculiar dynamics of Pakistani politics make it impossible to have them work together. But still, the US doesnt have to pay the price for their mutual conflicts. Its Pakistan and its people who have to face the outcome of their wrangling.
