Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUIF) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman strongly criticised the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) for not issuing CNICs to thousands of people of North Waziristan and other parts of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) who migrated to Peshawar and other cities during Operation Zarb-e-Azb.

In an interview, the JUIF chief said that consultations have begun for a strong protest against this attitude of NADRA and a privilege motion would also be tabled in the National Assembly.

According to reports, NADRA has been refusing to issue CNICs to Temporarily Displaced Persons (TDPs) of North Waziristan and other parts of FATA for one year.

Maulana spoke to Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan over the grievances of the people who directed the NADRA chairman to resolve the issue by meeting the JUIF chief.

Maulana said that he had written a letter to the NADRA chairman recommending him to issue CNICs to 150 tribal elders and citizens as he knew them personally. He, however, said the NADRA chairman has not responded to his letter despite the passage of one year.

He said the issue would be strongly raised in the National Assembly during the next session and if considered necessary, a privilege motion would also be moved against the NADRA chairman.

Sources said that parliamentarians from FATA have assured Maulana of their cooperation. They said that Maulana and the FATA parliamentarians are considering to stage a sit-in at NADRA headquarters in Islamabad on August 1 when the National Assembly would begin its session. The tribal elders would stage protests outside the NADRA offices in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
