IGP reopens Chani Goth blasphemy case, inspector suspended

Punjab inspector general of police (IGP) Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera has ordered to reopen the blasphemy case of Chani Goth police station in which hundreds of people tortured an unidentified person to death on the charge of desecration of the Holy Quran.

According to details, an unidentified person had allegedly desecrated a copy of Holy Quran at Chakkar Chani Goth on national highway on July 3, 2013; resultantly, the police had arrested him.

Later a big mob ransacked Chani Goth police station, burnt police vehicles and its record, injured the police officials and got freed the alleged accused from police custody and took him to Chakkar Chani Goth where he was beaten to death.

The Chani Goth police had not submitted the challan of this case despite the passage of three years.

The IGP took notice of this police negligence and directed the Bahawalpur regional police officer (RPO) for strict action.

Meanwhile, under the orders of Bahawalpur RPO, former Chani Goth SHO Inspector Irshad Hussein Bukhari was suspended and directed to report back at Bahawalpur police lines. He was currently serving in Yazman.

On the instructions of Bahawalpur RPO, Bahawalpur Regional SSP Investigation Gohar Mushtaq Bhutta is supervising the investigation of this case.
