Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Senator Sirajul Haq has announced a march against corruption in Rawalpindi after Eid-ul-Fitr. He urged the rulers to renounce corruption and present themselves for accountability before they are thrown out of power.

Addressing a press conference at Mansoora before leaving for Umrah on Monday, he said that the JI had given much time to the government for deciding a line of action to weed out corruption but the government and some elements in the opposition were not serious about the issue. Neither the government nor the opposition is serious about accountability, he said.

He said, “We would not let the issue bury in the dust. We want the accountability of all including the prime minister.” if the rulers had any moral courage, the judicial commission for accountability would have been set up by now. Siraj said that the failure of the nine meetings of the ToR committee was clear evidence that the government was not ready to neither constitute the judicial commission nor appear before it for accountability. He said that the present government system would not allow any effective action against the plunderers.

The JI chief said that Supreme Court had been taking suo moto action on petty matters but was not ready to take action against those looting the public money.

The JI chief reiterated that the appointment of NAB chairman should be made by a judicial committee comprising chief justice of the Supreme Court and the chief justices of all high courts.

He said that several proofs have been produced before the NAB about the mega corruption of different people and even the international media had released reports on that but the NAB has not taken action as yet.

Sirajul Haq said that the idol of corruption could be seen in the corridor of power all around but the institutions of accountability could not locate it. He said there was despair among the masses and the youth were disappointed of their future. Five per cent feudal lords owned 64 per cent of the country’s land and 95 per cent of the country’s wealth, he said.
