LAHORE – The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday sought replies from the Punjab government and the Lahore district coordination officer on a petition challenging the holding of rallies and processions at The Mall. The Mall Road Traders Association filed the petition and submitted that protests and rallies affected business activity on The Mall.
The petition read that different political and religious parties held protests on a daily basis, especially on Friday. The association contended that the traffic police had to block all roads connecting The Mall whenever a protest was held, which resultantly clogged traffic and hurdled the people to reach markets.
The association therefore prayed the court to issue a restraining order against holding of protests and rallies on The Mall. The court, after hearing the contention, sought replies from the Punjab government and the DCO within two weeks.
