Pakistan Day was celebrated throughout the district on Wednesday with national zeal. The day started with special prayers in mosques for the sovereignty of the country. The main flag hoisting ceremony was held at DCO Complex. Members of the parliament including Haji Akram Ansari, Begum Khalida Mansur, Haji Ilyas Ansari, Madiha Rana, Dr. Najma Afzal, Surraya Nasim, acting DCO Ejaz Khaliq Razaqi and CPO Afzal Kausar hoisted the national flag. Officers of different departments and representatives of civil society were also present on the occasion.
Addressing the ceremony, MNA Haji Akram Ansari and other parliamentarians said that the entire nation was celebrating Pakistan Day with unity as it was the day when resolution for the independence of Pakistan was passed. After a short period of seven years, Pakistan came into being as a result of the untiring efforts of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and other leaders of Pakistan movement, he said.
He said that the present government, under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, was following revolutionary polices for steering the country out of crises, adding that positive results have been achieved after the measures taken against terrorism. He vowed that Pakistan would be made a welfare state by following the golden principles of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
Acting DCO Ejaz Khaliq and CPO Afzal Kausar also spoke on the occasion and paid tribute to the martyrs of the Pakistan movement. They said, “Pakistan was achieved after offering a number of sacrifices and we will not spare any effort for the solidarity and progress of the country.”Later, special prayer was offered for the unity of the nation and development of Pakistan.
Meanwhile, MNA Haji Akram Ansari, MPA Ilyas Ansari, acting DCO Ejaz Khaliq Razaqi, CPO Afzal Kausar and other officers visited graveyard at Ghulam Muhammad Abad and laid floral wreath on the graves of martyrs of Pak Army and Pakistan movement.
A special ceremony was also held at Presbyterian Church at Railway road in which acting DCO Ejaz Khaliq Razaqi, AC City Blawal Abru and other officers of district administration, Ex-MPA Kamal Ghugtai, Pastor Emric Joseph and other leaders of Christian community participated in the ceremony. Special prayer for the progress of Pakistan and national unity was offered on the occasion.
State Minister for Water and Power Chaudhry Abid Sher Ali, MPA Mian Tahir Jamil, acting DCO Ejaz Khaliq Razaqi, CPO Afzal Kausar and other officers laid floral wreath on the momentum of martyrs of police and offered Fateha.
Divisional Commissioner Captain (r.) Nasim Nawaz participated in a function held at Government Postgraduate College Samanabad to mark Pakistan Day. Director Colleges Rana Munawar Khan, Deputy Director Muhammad Idrees, Principal Ejaz Farooq and other officers were also present in the function. The competitions of Naat and Qirat of divisional level were held on the occasion.
Meanwhile, a mini marathon race was held in connection with the Pakistan Day under the arrangements of district sports department. The race started from Iqbal Stadium and culminated on the same point after passing through Jail road, University road, Hilal-e-Ahmar Chowk, Shuhda Yadgar chowk and Bilal road. Members of the parliament Haji Akram Ansar, Haji Ilyas Ansari, Begum Najma Afzal, acting DCO Ejaz Khaliq Razaqi distributed prizes among the position holders of the race.
Pakistan Day was also observed at district level and different political, social, business organisations arranged rallies, seminars and programme to highlight the importance of Pakistan Resolution.
The roads and intersection were decorated with the national flags and portraits of the heroes of Pakistan movement. Sweets and fruits were distributed in jails, orphanages, Darul Aman, hospitals, SOS village and other welfare institutions.
