The police foiled a bid to smuggle huge quantity of arms and arrested two smugglers during an operation here on Monday.
DPO Sargodha Sajjad Hassan Munj while addressing a press conference here at police lines, he said that the police reacting to a tip-off started snap checking of vehicles and during search of a Sargodha-bound car coming from Peshawar near motorway Salam Interchange, a huge cache of weapons was recovered.
The recovered arms included 12 repeater guns, 28 pump action guns, 40 rifles, over 21,000 rounds of different bores. Two arms smugglers Akhtar Nawaz and Fazal Karim stated to be hailing from district Nowshera of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) were arrested.
The DPO claimed that the smuggled weapons were to be used for terror activities but timely action of the police foiled the bid.
