Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) is preparing to add 125 mmcfd (million cubic feet gas per day) of gas to the national distribution system by the end of next month, official sources in the company said.
“The additional supply will help meet growing energy demand in different sectors to some extent, while the company has further expedited its exploration activities across the country,” a local news agency quoted the officials as saying.
The sources said that OGDCL had recently made two significant oil and gas discoveries in Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
They said that the company had found 35.7 mmcfd of gas from Thal East-well 1 located in Sindh and 1,032 barrels per day of crude oil from Nashpa-well 5 in KP.
They said that OGDCL had the target to drill 31 wells in all the provinces during the current financial year and hoped to achieve the set target.
Presently, they said, drilling was being conducted at 17 wells, adding that 9 new wells had been spud and five were in the testing phase. In the current month, six more drills would be carried out and the company would complete the process by June, 2016, the sources added.
Currently, they said, the company had 24 exploration licences and it was actively busy in exploration and production activities in Balochistan where some areas were inaccessible earlier.
The officials said that the OGDCL had also initiated 2D and 3D seismic data surveys in eight blocks in the province to step up its oil and gas exploration activities.
