The Supreme Court (SC) has imposed a Rs 50,000 fine on former MNA Ejaz Chaudhry after his lawyer Khawaja Haris failed to appear in court over the fake degree case.

The court directed the petitioner, Ejaz Chaudhry, to appear before it on the next hearing, and said that no more adjournments will be given.

A three-member bench of the SC, presided over by Chief Justice of Pakistan Anwar Zaheer Jamali took, up the case for hearing on Tuesday.

Advocate Khadim Hussain Qaisar told the court that Khawaja Haris could not appear in the court due to some unknown reasons, despite the fact that he had contacted him at night.

CJP remarked Ejaz Chaudhry and Khawaja Haris have not filed any application or given any information. “We have already adjourned the hearing of this case,” he said. Khadim Hussain Qaisar pleaded for a brief adjournment.

The court, while slapping a fine of Rs 50,000 on the petitioner, put off the hearing of the case until next week.
