Dilwale has turned out to be a true-blue commercial Bollywood potboiler. But if you’re looking for a novel film, then you’ll have to wait for Fan, says Shah Rukh.
“If you’re looking for novelty, then you should watch out for Fan. It’s a different kind of film, meant to be a niche… not a blockbuster,” said the megastar.
Fan, directed by Maneesh Sharma, features Shah Rukh as Gaurav, a fan of Shah Rukh Khan, the superstar.
SRK believes that “films are novel in their storytelling, unless you have a completely niche or offbeat subject, and you take a subject not touched upon”.
For Dilwale, he was clear that it was meant to be an “in-the-face” commercial entertainer. Directed by Rohit Shetty, who’s known for his stylish action and comic scenes, the movie has impressed Bollywood buffs, primarily SRK’s fans.
“Dilwale is an unabashedly popular commercial film. It doesn’t pretend to be something else. It’s meant to be watched by everyone — it has romance, comedy, drama.
“I don’t even think that having Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan is a novelty factor, it’s just that we are doing a film together after a long time. If you ask me generically, no Dilwale is not reinventing cinema. It’s a fun commercial movie,” added SRK.
