Provincial Minister for Minorities and Human Rights Khalil Tahir Sindhu Monday said the PML-N government is taking steps in the light of UN convention to award due status to minorities in Pakistan. Talking to various Christian delegations at his office, he said, “Christmas gives the message of peace, love, harmony and hope”. He said the government had constituted committees at district level for promotion of religious harmony. “We have allocated five percent quota for minorities in government jobs, merit scholarships and financial assistance to minority students,” he added. The minister mentioned that legislation for marriage registration, curbing violence against women, remission for minority prisoners and controlling child labour and child abuse were notable steps taken by the government. He said extra-ordinary security measures would be taken on Christmas in all churches of the province.
