Describing J&K as the root cause of all Indo-Pak problems, Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit has said economic ties are bound to hit “snags perennially in an unpredictable political environment”.
“Aspirations of Kashmiris can neither be ignored nor suppressed; the sooner it is realised the better it would be.” The envoy was addressing a gathering of the Federation of Indian Exporters’ Organisation (FIEO).
“Basit said Pakistan had always wanted a normal relationship with India as peace was not only in the interest of the two countries but also in the interest of the region as a whole. He added that unilateralism and preconditions were a recipe for gridlock in inter-state relations,” he said.
The envoy also expressed hope that India would revisit its position as it defied logic to be locked in a “perpetually conflictual relationship”.
“On issues related to bilateral trade, Basit said there was huge potential between the two countries. Nevertheless, it was necessary to have a level playing field with a view to make trade mutually beneficial. He said non-tariff barriers on the Indian side were adversely affectingPakistan’s exports to India,” Basit said.
Untill Kashmir issue is resolved fully along with other issues like Siachin, there should not be any trade with India. Better to integrate more with China and other arab muslim nations like Saudi . That is enough for the prosperity in Pakistan. With the neclear bomb, now India will not dare to fight with Pakistan. Hence it may the time to laucnh an operation like Kargil. This time, India will not have the advantage like earlier as Pakistan is in a very strong position now and has the support of China. So with just one more operation, the entire Kashmir valley can be captured as the people of Kashmir are now ready to merge with Pakistan. Any attempt of Pakistan will get positive support on the ground by the people in Kashmir valley.
Tellmore, You are right that India Pakistan must go their own way as they are two diametrically opposite nations. As suggested by you,
Pakistan must continue to lease out more and more area to China to keep alive. With India on one side and Afghanistan and Iran on the other, the only route left for you to trade is China or via sea. There is very little you export to China but import almost everything. The only goods exported by pakistan are textiles and rice (a variety no consumed in China) which China does not want.
Neither Saudi nor Iran are interested to trade with you. And we see prosperity coming to Pakistan with defaults on debt repayment. You need thorough training in international relations my friend when you say Pakistan must launch kargil type operation. China did not help you in 1965, 1971, 1984, 1999. It never will as it fears losing trade of over $60 billion.
Fools don't take lesson from history and expect different results from same tactic each time. If you try anything on kashmir, you might lose a few areas of your country.
Sincerest advice. Work for the progress of your country within available resources. Today, it is economics that defines strength if a country not weapons obtained in aid.
