Federal Minister for Planing and Development Ashan Iqbal said on Thursday that Pakistan would generate an additional 11,000 MW of electricity by 2018 and would further increase production to around 45,000 MW by 2025.

Addressing the 6th international conference on management research at Superior University Raiwind road, he said that Pakistan’s power generation projects were mostly environment friendly.

He said that government was giving preference to investment in hydel and wind projects in the power sector. He asked the universities to work as an engine for development and research in these and other sectors that the country needs.

The minister said that two years ago, foreign media was painting Pakistan as a negative and terrorist country, but now, Pakistan was being seen as a changed country internationally.

He said that Pakistan was now a safe country for foreign investment. He said that Pakistan was a responsible state and was aware of its responsibility.

He hoped that foreign delegates of this conference would return from Pakistan with good impression about the country.

Earlier, Superior University Chairman Chaudhry Abdul Rehman welcomed the minister.

Delegates from France, UK, USA, Italy and Indonesia also participated in the conference.
