A jailed robber, who did not even spearhead any campaign, was elected as councillor from ward number 6 of Lahore’s union council 124.

According to a private media outfit, Naveed Tahir had won the councilor seat with 328 votes on PML-N ticket. The party has suspended his basic membership, however.

Tahir is reportedly standing a trial for allegedly snatching Rs 1.6 million from an excise team two months ago. He was arrested along with his accomplice ahead of the local bodies’ elections. Weapons and Rs 0.5 million cash were also recovered from them. He was even presented before media on October 28 by the superintendent of police (SP) Cantonment. Tahir has reportedly looted various mobile shops on Walton Road.
