Capital Development Authority (CDA) Friday asked the owners of the buildings in the federal capital to submit soundness and stability certificates of their respective buildings by 30 November.

According to a spokesman of the CDA, the stability certificates issued by approved vetting consultants would be accepted. The certificates should be under the provisions of building code of Pakistan (Seismic provision 2007).

The damaged structures should be rectified immediately as the occupation of any building prior to issuance of its completion or fitness certificate is violation of CDA ordinance and Building Regulations 2005, he said.

CDA would not be responsible in case of loss of life or property. Meanwhile, the CDA is planning to revise building codes after recommendations from structure assessment consultants aiming to overcome short-comings and avoiding future losses

The civic body has already tasked reputed structure, design experts and firms to carry out survey of the high rise buildings in the federal capital aiming to revisit the building code keeping in view the recent earthquake.

The CDA after seeking input of structure engineers and firms would study the data and revise the building codes in light of recommendations by the structure assessment consultants.
